The Centre for the Arts commenced operation in 1993. A group of enthusiastic local people formed an arts organisation and after successful lobbying leased a property from the City of Perth (now the Town of Victoria Park). The Centre for the Arts is committed to playing a major role in the development of a distinctive cultural identity for Victoria Park. The Centre is supportive of local artists, community art practice and its multi-cultural community.
In 2005 the studio area, behind the house/gallery building, was completed thanks to the Town of Victoria Park, this new art space has enabled the centre to provide better services with more scope for arts based activities at the centre.
The Centre for the Arts has conducted many successful art projects and close relationships and partnerships have been formed over the years including Mirvac Fini through Creating Communities, local members of parliament; Steve Irons MHR, Ben Wyatt MLA and Kim Wilkie, various local businesses, Hawaiian shopping centre (The Park Centre), City Farm, VIP, local Chamber of Commerce, local schools, Green Reserves, Artsource, Edith Cowan University and our main partners and supporters for the arts Nulsen Haven and the Town of Victoria Park.
Through out the year Victoria Park Centre for the Arts has regular art events and activities. These include the Victoria Park Art Awards, art activities for the Town of Victoria Park Fun Day and Christmas Mall, Centro shopping centre display and demonstrations, Victoria Park Art Walk, Artopia activities, representation on the Victoria Park Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, regular Art and Craft Markets at the centre, workshop/art program four terms a year and an annual members’ exhibition, as well as displays of members work in between regular artist exhibitions and the art gallery shop featuring unique objects d’art by many artists and craft people of WA.
